Egyptians of the Old and Middle Kingdoms were among the first to use glass in their material culture. At its peak, The Roman Empire controlled much of the Mediterranean Sea region 508-27 BCE. Glass production and glass-blowing originated in the Syria-Palestinian region. This new technology revolutionized glass production, and allowed craftsmen to make a variety of shapes.
