Drawing I:

Beginning drawing skills are taught as students have fun and learn to draw from observation.  Students build drawing skills and confidence with drawing exercises. We will have fun making  "blind-contour" drawings of classmates' faces.  Students will draw small objects  and use various drawing materials including graphite, charcoal, and pastels.  Information of  Elements of design are introduced: line, color, value, shape, texture, form, size.  Some drawings from art history will be discussed.

Drawing 2:

Students continue drawing to build skills.  How to observe like an artist? How to draw objects realistically?  How to create the illusion of 3-d objects on paper?  Students will experience drawing simple human forms using studio art model wooden figure.  Principles of Compositional Design are introduced and learn to combine Art Elements, such as balance, harmony, contract, center of interest fundamentals from Drawing 1.  Students will begin keeping individual sketchbooks and work on home drawing assignments.

Drawing 3:  Teen - Adult

Students will build upon the observational and drawing skills from Drawing 1 & 2, and develop mastery of drawing of realistic-looking objects. we will continue to study  Principles of Compositional Design.  Students will learn to create a personal Still Life composition, and create more refined and finished drawings.  Some drawings from art history will be discussed. Exercises from the book Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain, by Betty Edwards will be included.  Students will continue individual sketchbooks and work on home drawing assignments.
